Click for USA Swimming's Home Page July 13, 2007 Michael Thomas Swims First Juniors Cut in 800M Freestyle Michael Thomas swam his first Juniors Cut in the 800M Freestyle Friday evening. Thomas dropped 8 seconds off his best time resulting in a time of 8:35.80, winning him second place behind teammate Ian Rowe. Rowe also has a lights out 800M swim finishing with a best time of 8:14.88, not only winning the event, but also ranking him 5th in the nation--only 2 seconds behind 3rd ranked Dan Madwed. NBAC had top finishers in all age groups for the 800M Freestyle events. Andrew Cosgarea (13-14) swam a great 800M Free time of 8:55.03--an 8 second drop placing him first in the event and 16th in the nation. Daniel Ojard finished 5th behind Cosgarea with a 40 second drop from his seed time. Christine Hammond (13-14) finished 2nd in the 800M with a 15 second drop, and Rachael Schaffer finished 4th with a 1 second drop off her best. In the Girls 800M Open Freestyle, Allison Barnes placed 2nd. The first session of the meet left coaching excited for the other great swims of the weekend. "It is a waterfall effect," Coach Armstrong says. "Once one person has a great swim, they silently inspire and encourage other teammates to do so as well." July 14, 2007 Erin O'Donnell Places 2nd in 100M Butterfly and Qualifying for Juniors Erin O'Donnell cut 1.41 seconds off her 100M Fly time qualifying her for Juniors and winning 2nd just behind teammate Kailey Morris. Andrea Staub placed 3rd in the event. Dan Madwed won the Men's Open 100M Butterfly in a 55.62 maintaining his 1st place ranking in the event. Connor Wills just touched out teammate Richard Hills for 2nd place finishing with a 59.21 to Hill's 59.29. Among the new zone qualifiers were Dan Ojard, 1st cuts in the 200M and 400M Freestyle, Brooke Raab, 1st cut in the 100M Fly, and Liz Haze, 1st cut in the 400M IM. In the Women's 13-14 100M Breaststroke, Rachael Schaffer cut 3 seconds off her seed time to win first place with a time of 1:17.60. Camryne Morris improved her T-16 rankings in both the (11-12) 200M Free, finishing 1st with a 2:13.15, and (11-12) 100M Butterfly, dropping two seconds and finishing 1st with a 1:07.78, during Saturday's finals. Morris's Free moved up from the 9th ranking to the 5th, and her Butterfly places her currently 10th. Juliana Runk also improved her T-16 ranking in the (10 & Under) 50 Breast from 23rd to 12th with a time of 40.11.
