Southern California Grand Prix – Long Beach, California

 

 NBAC  takes 22 Top 8 finishes at the Southern California Grand Prix in Long Beach, California this past weekend with their squad of seven swimmers - Ben Hesen, Felicia Lee, Ellis Miller, Patrick Murphy, Todd Patrick, Elizabeth Pelton and Michael Phelps.  NBAC took four 1st places at the meet (Elizabeth Pelton – 1, Michael Phelps – 3).  NBAC set seven NBAC and Maryland Swimming records as well as one Meet Record.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  

Day 1

 

On Day 1, Felicia Lee placed 3rd in the 200 Fly with a 1:56.18.  Todd Patrick also turned in a great performance on the men’s side in the 200 Fly with a 1:43.65.  This was a personal best for Todd and placed him 2nd.  Elizabeth Pelton had the 1st win of the night with a 1:51.48 in the 200 Backstroke.  This was a personal best that set the NBAC Team record and Maryland Swimming Record for 15-16, and Open Girls.  This also broke the meet record formally held by Mary DeScenza-Mohler.  Check on the splits:  27.37, 28.58, 27.96, 27.57.  Negative Split!  NBAC newcomers Ellis Murphy and Patrick Miller placed 7th and 8th on the Men’s side of the 200 Backstroke with times of 1:48.34 and 1:48.82.  Felicia Lee dropped 6 seconds off of her personal best in the 500 Freestyle to place 6th overall with a 4:47.88.  Michael Phelps closed out the night for NBAC with a 1st place finish in the 500 Freestyle with a 4:18.70.

 

Day 2

 

Elizabeth Pelton kicked this off with a 3rd place finish in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:45.52.  Todd Patrick took 2nd place on the men’s side with a personal best of 1:35.58.  Elizabeth Pelton came back quickly from her 200 Freestyle to place 4th in the 50 Freestyle with a 23.49.  Felicia Lee was up next with a 3rd place finish in the 400 IM in a time of 4:12.53.  Michael Phelps took 1st place on the men’s side with a 3:38.42.  Todd Patrick backed him up with a 3:45.54. 

 

Day 3

 

NBAC was awesome in the 100 Butterfly placing 5 swimmers in the women’s and men’s final.  Felicia Lee placed 2nd in the 100 Butterfly with a personal best of 52.71. This set both the NBAC and Maryland Swimming 17-18 Record!  Felicia also broke the NBAC and Maryland Swimming 17-18 Records in prelims!  Elizabeth Pelton also placed in the Top 8 in the 100 Butterfly.  Her 54.02 placed 6th.  Michael Phelps took 1st in the 100 Butterfly with a 45.68.  Michael’s time takes over a second off of the NBAC and Maryland Swimming record.  Todd Patrick placed 5th with a 47.31 and Ellis Miller placed 8th with a 49.14.  Felicia Lee placed 2nd in the 100 Backstroke with a personal best of 53.30 which breaks the both the NBAC and Maryland Swimming records which were held by Beth Botsford since 1999!  Ben Hesen took 7th place with a  47.90.  Elizabeth Pelton took almost a second off of her personal best to take 4th place in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:02.66.  Michael Phelps took 5th place on the men’s side setting the NBAC Team and Maryland Swimming records in the process with a 54.25.
