The NBAC Family is saddened by the news of the death of one of our alumni, Joseph F. Curreri, a sergeant in the US Army. Joey, along with his sister Shannon, swam for NBAC for many years, setting multiple team and Maryland Swimming Records. Joe joined the United States Army in 2004 and was serving in his first deployment in the Philippines at the time of his death. After joining the Army, Joe went first to airborne training, then Special Forces training at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was a communications sergeant assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group at Fort Lewis, Washington. His death was an accidental drowning according to the Army.

Joe is survived by his wife, Athena, of Los Angeles, California;  his mother and sister, Karen Curreri and Shannon Curreri, of Redondo Beach, California; his father Frank Curreri, his stepmother, Tricia and step sister, Angelia, all of Baltimore. Arrangements are pending.
